E greu a afla - M.Eminescu

E greu a afla o formula pentru cele ce se petrec; cu toate acestea nu credem sa fie cineva care sa afirme ca dispozitia spiritelor la noi e normala si sanatoasa. Oamenii simt o apasare, asemenea celei produse de atmosfera ingreunata de furtuna, apasare de care nimeni nu-si poate da seama de unde vine, dar care se manifesta prin o suma de incidente. Desigur nu e pura intamplare ca se-nmultesc omorurile, aceste morti fizice prin violenta, precum se sporesc falimentele, aceste decese economice asemenea viloente. Nu credem ca circulare sa poata inlatura cauzele sociale din care rasar asemenea fenomene. In sfera vietii morale pare a nu mai fi existand nici o idee serioasa care sa-ncalzeasca sufletele si sa le ridice din mizeria vietii de toate zilele. Ideile religioase sunt subminate de-un materialism brutal, ideile morale substituie prin maxime epicureice si prin cinism; scandalurile se-nmultesc si iau formele cele mia degradatoare; ideea nationalitatii chiar, atat de roditoare si in stare a tine loc multor goluri ale culturii, e subminata de teoreme cosmopolite si socialiste. C-un cuvant, zi cu zi ne americanizam ( globalizam ) zi cu zi devenim mai nepasatori fata de soarta poporului nostru propriu si-n mijlocul acestei nepasari, caracteristice, numai poparelor guvernate de despotism, singurul nerv, care misca elementele dominante este goana dupa aur.
Precum corpurile ceresti rasar si apun, tot astfel credinta popoarelor vechi le dadea zeilor un rasarit pe orizontul constiintei omenesti si le dadea un amurg de seara si o asfintire. Dupa apunerea lor ce putea sa ramana in urma decat intuneric si haos?
Tot astfel constelatia de idei morale si nationale care a luminat trecutul nostru, care ne-a manat pe calea dezvoltarii, inclina spre apus, nici una nici alta din credintele din trecut nu rezista disolutiei si, ca sa intrebuintam un frumos cuvant al Bibliei, semnele vremii se inmultesc.
Manati de spiritul strain a unor mizerii straine, ne luptam pentru sufragiul universal sau pentru electivitatea magistraturii. Marii oameni ce se pretind reprezentanti ai poporului romanesc intreg, cei ce pretind a personifica idealurile noastre nationale, lupta de emancipare ce ne absoarbe de un secol si jumatate, acestia nu au in vedere decat utopii cosmopolite, proprii a ne dezorganiza si mai mult, a slabi in noi simtul de conservare nationala si daca se servesc din cand in cand de ideile comune poporului romanesc, o fac numai debitandu-le ca pe-o marfa, pentru a-si castiga popularitate.
Fata cu aceste fenomene de descompunere pe toate terenurile nu e oare o datorie pentru oamenii de bine de-a se opune uniti acestui curent fatal care ameninta a atomiza pe cel mai numeros popor din rasaritul Europei? Caci la ce ar tinde demagogia la noi si pretutindenea decat de-a nimici clasele, identitatea lor de interese si de vederi, de-a le desface in indivizi, de-a opune pretutindenea numarul si multimea valorii, culturii si meritului? A confunda pe toti romanii independent in colegiul al IV-lea a majoriza prin aceasta, ce altceva poate sa-nsemneze decat a nimici din radacini clasele purtatoare de idei, pe cele care inteleg interesele natiunii, si a le ineca in masa celor ce, nestiind nici scrie si citi, nu sant in stare a intelege interesele lor proprii, necum acelea ale colectivitatii nationale?
Amenintati dinauntru si din afara de descompunere, avand a lupta cu dusmanul demagogiei interne care, ca o boala organica mananca incheieturile societatii, pe cand dusmanul extern cauta a absorbi nationalitatea, suntem in prada frigurilor dinlauntru si loviturilor din afara, stapaniti cu toate acestea, in timpul crizei, de-o mana de feneanti si de facem-treburi, de-un grup de exploatatori pentru care nu exista alte chestiuni decat acelea ale stomacului lor propriu.
Se-ntelege ca pentru aceste elemente orice mijloc de-a ramane deasupra e binevenit; nici unul din ilustratiile lor nu va avea slabiciunea de-a se intreba care e pretul cu care se perpetueaza domnia cupiditatii si a coruptiei. Foile lor vor incerca sa dovedeasca ca nenaturala e unirea elementelor din opozitie. In realitate insa pericolele ce ameninta statul si nationalitatea sunt cu mult superiaore deosebirilor de vederi ce vor fi existat vreodata intre membrii opozitiei. "MIHAI EMINESCU" (Opere politice)
